The Basic Working Principle

The floating ball valves use buoyant ball as its closure element. When the valve is open, the ball’s bore aligns with the pipeline, allowing fluid to flow freely. Rotating the handle 90° shifts the ball so that its solid side blocks the flow.
 
The “floating” design refers to the ball being suspended between two flexible seals. Fluid pressure pushes the ball against the downstream seat, enhancing sealing a critical feature for low-to-medium pressure applications.
